In middle school we learned that
the air at high altitudes is
thinner than normal;
when you’re on top of the world
it’s so much harder to
breathe.
I’m trying to tell myself that
that’s why I get this
ache in my chest
whenever I think of you,
but darling,
love shouldn’t be this difficult.
You are the air that
I would kill to breathe,
but there’s just not enough of you to
keep me alive.
